Project Engineer (Mechanical, Chemical or Petroleum)

JOB SUMMARY:

The responsibilities of this position may include work assignments to provide support on engineering projects, integrity management projects, operations projects, and other related oil and gas consulting projects.  Perform all phases of engineering, design or other related technical work for a variety of clients in the energy industry from the proposal phase through project execution of the technical work, completion of project deliverables, and project management.  The position may also be required to facilitate and document safety reviews on projects for new and existing production facilities, depending on experience and competency progression.  The position may require travel to urban and rural locations in Alaska and outside Alaska. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Independently perform most assignments with limited instruction.
  • Provide professional management of engineering and construction projects.
  • Manage engineering projects of moderate size and complexity.
  • Perform engineering review, analysis, calculations, and modeling.
  • Perform documentation, data research and technical report writing.
  • Provide Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) meeting facilitation and support.
  • Develop operations and maintenance procedures.
  • Provide oil and gas facility field support.
  • Develop proposals and perform cost estimating.

SUPERIVISION:

  • This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to independently complete assignments with limited instruction.
  • Ability to exercise judgment on details of work and in making preliminary selections or adaptations of engineering alternatives.
  • Ability to read all disciplines of architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction project management related policies, technology, principles, laws and regulations.
  • Ability to manage projects of moderate size and complexity.
  • Ability to provide professional management of engineering and construction projects.
  • Interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering.
  • 4 years of professional engineering experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4+ years of professional engineering experience. 
  • Currently have, or be able to obtain within 2 years, State of Alaska Professional Engineering (P.E.) Certification.
  • 4+ years of professional experience within the oil and gas industry.
  • Knowledge of process safety and risk management programs, regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of Process Hazards Analysis (PHA), Hazard and Operability Studies (Hazop), or Level of Protection Analysis (LOPA) review techniques.
  • Health, safety, security and environmental (HSSE) regulatory knowledge.
  • Acquaintance with HYSYS, Aspen, ChemCAD or other process modeling software
  • Technical writing background.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:  The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities and abilities.
